Uncle Lee's Tea Organic White Tea, Tea Bags, 100-Count Boxes (Pack of 4) Overview

Uncle Lee's Tea Organic White Tea, Tea Bags, 100-Count Boxes (Pack of 4) Blending Eastern & Western traditions, naturally. Eco Cert - Certified by Ecocert SA F-32600. Individually wrapped. Our Organic Legends of China White Tea (Bai Mu Dan) is grown in the mountains of the Fujian Province of China and undergoes little processing. The absence of this process leaves the appearance and cell structure of the leaves basically unaltered. This purity may be what some researchers have said might cause white tea to have a greater concentration of antioxidants than all of the teas that originate from green tea. White tea is the most delicate of all its taste being subtle, complex and mildly sweet. The caffeine content of our organic white tea is approximately 15 to 20 mg of caffeine per cup. (Black Tea contains 80 to 120 mg and coffee contains 100 to 200 mg.) Tea bags are oxygen bleached. White tea, like the green tea from which it comes, is one of the most healthiest beverages you can drink on the planet today and it has more antioxidants and less caffeine than regular green tea. Our 100% Organic Legends of China White Tea will provide you with the finest tea leaves for your tea drinking enjoyment and good health. Certified organic by Eco Cert, Inc.

Uncle Lee's Tea Organic White Tea, Tea Bags, 100-Count Boxes (Pack of 4) Review

#Uncle Lee's Tea Organic White Tea, Tea Bags, 100-Count Boxes (Pack of 4) Best Review# I bought this tea because I love white tea. Normally I buy loose tea, and of the highest grade.

I knew this tea would likely lose some character if it was sold in tea bags. Also, the tea contained in these bags is not the highest grade, but of the second grade. This is NOT a knock against the tea as clearly indicates the tea is Bai Mu Dan or Pai Mu Dan which is one level below Silver Needle.

I noticed this tea is quite a bit below the grade of Silver Needle. No taste of freshly mown hay here. However, the tea does smell a little smoky (probably cured over a wood fire). The taste is slightly woody or darker, but somewhat undefined.

This tea is okay though, better than some cheaper green teas I've gotten from discount stores.

I think the best purpose for this tea is iced tea. Fill a small jug full of water, hang a few bags of white tea in it, then put it in the fridge. After a few hours you can take out the bags and you'll have a nice base of white iced tea. Then just add a few cubes, or any other flavouring, and you've got a nice white iced tea that is better than the stuff you can buy already made up in the bottle.

For the price, however, it's a lot of medium "so so" grade white tea conveniently put into bags which you can drink at work or in the morning. However, as I have previously said, I think this tea is destined towards ice tea preparation. If you want a really good cup of white tea, your probably going to have to buy loose tea and pay a lot more $$$'s.

So I gave this tea four stars.

I don't believe the Amazon description, saying this is Bai Mu Dan, is correct. On the Uncle Lee's tea website, this tea is shown just as white camellia sinensis The Uncle Lee's Organic White tea that is described as Bai Mu Dan on the Uncle Lee website is for 18 bags. I've requested the actual content of this tea, but not received a reply yet. My guess is that it is actually Shou Mei.

The only other pure white tea I've had is Republic of Tea's Emperor's white tea, which I find superior to this tea, having a milder and sweeter flavor that is even more pleasant to drink without sweetener than this one. The Uncle Lee's white tea is closer to an oolong in both color and flavor than the Emperor's, with just a hint of bitterness and none of the herbal tones of a green tea.

That said, the RoT Emperor's White is almost 6 times more expensive than this tea, and Uncle Lee's is still easy to drink without sweetener, so I'll save the Emperor's for special moments and use the Uncle Lee's as my "daily drinker."

Having more flavor, I find that this makes an excellent iced tea.
